while I do not have a 22 mkII  I do have a 30-06 Mk II model 77, and it has a bolt release that is a square tab on the left side. pull one side of this away from the reciever and pull the bolt out.  clean from the breech

hth

I clean the barrel and then the breach area with a q-tip and oil...I then wipe it down with oil and I'm done...

One thing to remember...Many .22 barrels are damaged by too much cleaning...The newer powders aren't as corrosive as what we had years ago...Be careful if cleaning from the muzzle...

Why not disassemble it first?
There are videos on youtube that will show you how
Here is a link to instructions on the web
http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/index.htm
On Ruger's website you can download the manual which also has instructions.
Once you tear it down the next time is easy.
