Pedersoli Long Range Trapdoor?
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:41:49 PM »
I'm looking at getting a Pedersoli Long Range Trapdoor for BPCR long range matches.  Does anyone have any experience with Pedersoli trapdoors and can provide me some input?  I'm interested in fit and finish, trigger pull, sights, etc.

Thanks,

Cornhusker - no help here.  Most folks don't buy the Trapdoor.  Instead the '74 Sharps.  There are too many original Trapdoors on the market at lower prices.

Do know the all Pedersoli barrels are match quality.  Might want to read this over about Pedersoli's in general:

I do not own a pedersoli trapdoor but have owned a tool room sample of an H&R prototype trapdoor Creedmore rifle.  This rifle had the same weight and length (32 inches) as the standard infantry rifle.  I also own six original trapdoor rifles of different models.  If you are competing against other trapdoors you will do fine.  However, if you are shooting against Sharps, Winchesters, Ballards and etc that are setup for long range target shooting you will not have a prayer of winning the match.  The trapdoors do not have set triggers or heavy barrels. They are also not setup with target grade sights.  These alone will defeat your ability to be competitive.  Personally I only Shoot my trapdoors in matches when I am competing against other military type rifles.  For musket shoots the Pedersoli may be a winner.

A pistol grip stocked Trapdoor, heavy barrel, Soule tang and globe front sight and you have an interesting compeitive outfit.

Pedersoli did make an Officers model? From memory this was styled a little on the original Springfield Officers Model.... Not quite the dedicated target rifle that is usually set up, however they look fun and would be enjoyable to compete with!

Thanks for all of the input and ideas!  I am looking to compete in trapdoor only shoots.  The issue is should I purchase an original trapdoor for lower cost or buy a modern replica?  I'm leaning towards an original but haven't made my mind up yet.  I already load BPCR with my H&R Buffalo Classic, and would like to use the same Lyman 457125 bullet.  Any one have experience with a replica trapdoor with this bullet?

Thanks,
