Minnesota should get an honorable mention for two bad but common techniques:
1) tailgating on icy roads
2) coming to a complete stop on a freeway ramp prior to entering the stream of high speed traffic.

No, it's at any ramp where a driver is normally expected to accellerate to turnpike speeds to enter the flow of traffic.

might as well get use to it fellas .. we all know the average age of drivers is getting higher all the time.. i had an elderly lady look at me the whole time she was pulling out on me at an intersection ,where theres only a stopsign..speed limit for me was 55 an she just assumed ,i guess i was gonna slow dn..i didn t an she stopped .. i don t want to give her the idea others are gonna slow for her ..that can get her killed..ive seen other elderly that thier time had come to give up driving, but im gonna be just like them when my time comes..
its a heck of an loss of independence..
so on thead topic ..the most dangerouse are new drivers an the oldest drivers .. jmo slim

I think Arizona in the winter time should be on the list.  You'd think all the snowbirds would be easy going, but my experience is that they are all in a big hurry to get somewhere.  I don't want to generalize, but if you're a bicycle rider, Arizona has got to be one of the most dangerous states to ride in.

That happens here in south east PA all the time, not to mention winding up for turns, stopping in the middle of the road to look at an accident on the other side, slow down in the left lane to pass someone then speed up in the right lane. The drivers here are the worst I've seen in the country.

Slim Rem 7:

You're right, older drivers are dangerous. According to the insurance industry, after about age 75 we are even more likely to be in accidents than 16 year olds.

Sometimes it's amusing in a sad way. I was at the supermarket and watched an old lady drive through a bunch of shopping carts, back up, then hit some of them again. She was confused. Sad.

The problem is that it extends to fatalities too. Every once in a while a spectacular case hits the news, but more often only a single victim is killed.

No, I meant that the older drivers are killing innocent victims.

An example of a recent spectacular incident was when a man drove though a bunch of kids and killed seven or eight of them.

Here in the DFW metroplex if someone is going under the speed limit, just
pull out to pass and watch them take off. The other trick is to pull out
in 70 mph traffic off the on ramp running 35-40.

I am pushing 70 like a Mack without brakes on a 10% grade.
The older you get the less reaction time you have. Some of you 40something guys that think you still have good reactions take on a young fastballer and you will understand.
Life goes on well after your ability to compete.
Loosing your abilities does not mean loosing your desire.
Some old folks drive well, in their environment, well into their 80's. take them out of their environment and they are lost too the speed.
Be patient--you too shall proceed after them.
Blessings

i agree totally.. i don t hold it against young 30san40s.. but they really sometimes act as if older folk are to be tolerated.. true but arn t we all ..
i tolerate them..i understand them though ..i remember  my attitude toward my dad an mom.. i loved an respected them but kinda subconsciencely thought, they weren t current in thier thinking..
i know they picked up on it as i do if talking with my kids an grandkids.. i will say my kids much less like that than i was at one time..
 what goes around ,comes around..
lettum drive long as we can.. its traumatic to loose that bit of independence. slim

My mother-in-law drove into her 80's.  She finally surrendered her license after a twelve-mile police chase with lights and sirens.  It must have been really frustating for the state trooper to do that chasing a little old gray-haired lady at 45 mph.  He finally ordered stop strips to be laid down.  She finally pulled over.  Her rationale was that she had not been doing anything wrong and she could not imagine he was after her.  She had pulled around a truck stopped at a crosswalk and nearly hit the person the trucker had stopped for.  She never saw the pedestrian.

My wife was furious that the trooper had ordered stop strips.  Fortunately, he did not have any business before her judge before she retired, or I am sure that the trooper would have gotten an earful.
