Need help in finding Sharps 1874 parts.
« on: May 27, 2009, 02:26:49 PM »
Howdy from southern Arizona. I want to build my own 1874 Sharps rifle and not from a kit. Dixie Gun works has the stock parts and I think Green Mountain will make up a barrel. Now if I can just find a place to get the receiver/trigger assembly. Any ideas out there. If worse comes to worse, I'll get a kit but once again.....................who??? I asked awhile ago and was told to stay clear of IAB. But they don't have a US distributor anyway. Help please. Thanks

Quan, Are you sure you want to do that??? I researched that a few years ago and came up with about $2000 in parts, then you will need to know how to color case harden and blue, if you have this done there is another $300 or so and you need to be REAL good at the fit and finish or the gun will not be worth the parts  AND you can get a nice Shiloh for about the same price RIGHT NOW!!!!!????....Ed

Thanks for the help. I did find that Dixie Gun Works does carry a complete frame for $525. Then a stock set for $175 from Dixie and a barrel for $295 from Green Mountain,  I'm looking at $995 without the buttplate, fitting and final chambering of the barrel, small parts, etc. I could get a Pedersoli for the same overall price. Why??? Cause I want to build one! But it's not worth the expense. I hope this tirade helps someone who wants to build one.
