Class 3 Encore question
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:49:02 PM »
If I got a class 3 permit for a short barreled Encore rifle, could I legally fit any pistol barrel to the frame and use it as a rifle?

Just pondering...

You might have to specify a particular cartridge your short barreled rifle would be chambered for.  You probably ought to contact the BATF for more specific information.

Why not just order a 16.25inch barrel to be legal. The overall length should be right around 30inches or so. I had a Super 16 barrel on my Contender and the overall length with a butt stock was 28 inches total and light as a feather with a small fixed power scope on it.

I thought about this alot.  I think if you get the class three for SBR, you can fit any length barrel on your frame with a shoulder stock.  I think one of the requirements is to stamp the caliber, name and city/state on the gun.  What you can do is stamp every caliber you can think of using on the frame, or you can stamp it on a barrel, but you will have to keep that barrel with the frame at all times.  I think it would be really cool to be able to use all the pistol barrels out there with a stock.  Let us know if you do it and post some pics.

Yes you can fit any barrel to it, that is what I have done with one of my T/C frames. You just leave the caliber spot blank on the application for the SBR. The Frame is what gets registered not the barrel and stock, and yes you can still put the hand grip back on any time you want. So sayth the ATF.....so it is...
