Old 12 Gauge Single Shot Shotgun
« on: September 23, 2003, 10:27:50 AM »
I am not sure if this is the proper forum to post this on or not.  I have a 12 gauge shotgun that my father (now deceased) had acquired a long time ago.  It is a single shot gun and stamped on the top of the barrel is "Meridian Firearms Company and the words Patent Pending. On the left side of what I will call the receiver in script stamping is "The A.J. Aubrey".  Does anyone know the vintage of this particular gun??  The gun has a very heavy hammer and the trigger pull is very heavy.  The stock is not in too bad of shape for the way the gun was kept over the years.  I have fired  trap loads in it and it shoots fairly well.  I don't know if it is a twist steel or Damascus steel barrel.  Any information anyone can shed on this shotgun would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again!!!

The Meriden Firearms Co. of Meriden CT 1900-1915 made shotguns for Sears, Roebuck and Co.; they were also importers of German and Belgium doubles sold under their name.  I've also seen reference to shotshells made by Meriden.  The company was owned by Sears Roebuck and manufactured firearms exclusively for sale through Sears.  Mr. A. J. Aubrey was the executive in charge of Meriden.

I did a Google search for "Meriden Firearms Co." and "A. J. Aubrey"  on the Internet and came up with the info.
