Cerar Rapids, Iowa new ordinance!
« on: July 17, 2009, 10:03:19 AM »
It appears Cedar Rapids, Iowa has been experiencing ever increasing Cannon attacks. According to the August 2009 American Hunter magazine, Cedar Rapids city council has passed a new city ordinance outlawing the possession of any loaded or uncased cannon. Not sure what an uncased cannon is, but it is illegal in Cedar Rapids. The ordinance states "No person shall carry upon his person or have in his possession any loaded or uncased cannon, gun, fowling piece, air gun, gas or air operated pellet gun, other firearm or gun of any type".  The penalty for a violation can be up to $650 fine and 30 days behind bars. At least 6 people have been cited under the new ordinance. Don't know if Iowa has right to carry or not. Since the ordinance says "gun of any type" I guess kids can't play cowboys anymore. Perhaps some of our members in Iowa can find more information on this.  Kansas Boomer

Now that is some bull...well...its some bull and I'll leave it at that.

The people in this country had better wake up.  One of the reasons I moved to the south was because of the laws that were being proposed in my former state of residence.  Once these folks get guns out of the way you can bet your fanny that something new will be on the list.

It's our freedoms people.

the insanity is here in the south too there is a town in Georga that requires inspection of your house.... the whole hose they can poke around where

ever they want..... check your ac unit hot water heater how many gallons your toilet uses...... if you refuse you are arrested and while you sit in jail

they "Inspect"......... Bad laws come in all shapes and sizes, and the new people moving into your area want to make it like it was back home.
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

I feel good having livED in CR that I don't live there now.

I wonder if there are uncased cannons that are on display that will put the city in jeopardy?

Just received a copy of the ordinance from the Cedar Rapids Clerks office, very interesting reading. Would post it here if I could figure out how. Anyone I can send it to that can handle it for me?  Thanks,  Kansas Boomer

Here it is (in PDF format).
Read down through several pages of routine business first.
I like the intent, but I'm aprehensive about how general the terms are.

You guys need to read that again.  The ordinance already prohibited most of the items on the list. The ordinance merely was amended to add BB guns and paintball guns.

I guess I would be legal if I had a permit to carry a concealed cannon. Probably make me walk with a list to one side.

It looks like the usual "do not discharge a firearm within the city limits" type ordinance.  Typical socialist BS.  Makes fools feel safe, allows the government to arrest those it doesn't like and ignore those it does, and is impossible to enforce uniformly.

Though pertinent to the initial post, I still feel uncomfortable on having to make a CASE for my cannons to be able to posses them.  Some cannons are just destined to be DIAPLAYED!

Note that subsection (c) makes exceptions for items mentioned in subsection (a).  Item 1 of subsection (c) exempts "A person who is in his own dwelling or place of business or on land owned or possessed by the person."
