« on: June 02, 2009, 05:49:04 PM »
Anybody reloading the wallyworld federal shells.I can get a ton of the empty 1 oz 7 1/2 or 8's. This would be in 12 ga,they also have the 1 1/8 load in the 100 packs.Just wondered if anybody reloaded these and what powder and wad they used.It would be for16 yd  trap.I have loaded the 20's in 7/8 oz with win powder and win wads and they worked ok.

The cheap Federal hulls are not the best. I have loaded alot of them, but if you can find the cheap Remington hulls they seem to laod as well as the high dollar hulls. If your going to load light trap loads you don`t have to worry much about presure, but the Layman Shot Shell loading manual would be a good investment for you.

The Federal loads you are referring to use Federal's Top Gun hull, balistically it's identical to the Hi-Power paper base hull except it has an 8 point crimp as opposed to the 6 on the Hi-Power. Check with you powder supplier for load data.
A Maritimer & Damn Proud of it.

I reload both the Federal Top Gun and it's sister hull the Estate. I reload them once and pitch them. They reload great when I use 1 1/8 oz Downrange DRF-3 wads, 19gr. of Promo powder and Fiocchi 616 primers. Gives me just shy of 1200fps.
