A Good Time
« on: June 08, 2009, 01:29:25 AM »
I am setting in the Motel waiting for Stimpy to come down so we can head back East. I wanted to take this opputunity to thank the Gibson's for their hospitality. It was a first for me and hopefully not the last trip. I met lots of fine folks. I was a good thing to put faces with the names. The shooting was good, but a bit windy. I had to shoot into the wind 48" or more on some longer shots. Those .224 40 grain V Max just do not cut it in 30 mph winds at 600 yards. It is mighty satisfying when you make a hit out that far, even if I did not make a lot of them - just too much variable wind. Next time I will have some thing that bucks the wind better...hmmm; maybe a 22 BR with a fast twist...got to do some thinking on that. Well; thanks to all for a great time.

Hope everyone made it home OK.  Good to see the regulars and meet some new folks.  Great time as usual; thanks to Dan and Helen for their hospitality! Will post "Thank You's" when the list is posted.  Great door prizes again this year!

Dan and Helen again went above and beyond taking care of us, a giant Well Done for them, TJ and their friends who helped us out during the hunt!

Graybeard said he was taking the scenic route going home, he mentioned a trip to Ft Sill as one stop along the way.

I got home at 1:15 PM today, all is well here. When I left stimpy in Delphos, OH he seemed to OK too; as well as could be expected ::) His company on the way out and back was entertaining to say the least. 38 hours (out and back) in the same truck can cause a person to go crazy, if you do not have someone to entertain you. Once again, I wanted to thank Dan and Helen for putting up with us. I left the "guides" out but I much appreciated their sacrifice of personal time to spend with us. A special thanks to TJ - quite entertaining himself. As far as the wind is concerned - that is just the way it is, no one can control that. I knew I was taking a chance by shooting those slow twist barrels, that the wind wasn't going to be howl'n :o That will teach me for think'n too much. I will have some thing that handles those winds better next time. The whole experience - the food, the shooting, prizes and the folks were all top notch in my book.

Had a change of plans after calling Matt.  He told us that Phil our youngest son had a sore throat and was coughing.  I called to check on him and he could barely talk.  I wanted to come home to make sure he was okay.  If he doesn't get to feeling better there will be a trip to the doctor.

I would like to thank Dan and Helen for a great time.  The food and company were great. I met alot of nice folks and got to see alot of animals that I had not seen before.
