Just playing around with .458 300grn Lehigh.
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:36:44 AM »
I went to the range today to try out some new bullets for the Savage. I started with a 300grn-XXX that's what he called it. It shot okay but i didnt take any pics if that tells you anything. Even though these are .458 bullets i cant use the orange .458 MMP sabot because it's to loose in my bore.

Next up was the .458/300grn .458/210 bullet. Here again i needed to use the short black harvester sabot so i had a good seel with the bullets. I was pleasantly surprised how well this bullet shot. So right away i pulled out the chrono. I actually wasn't expecting these to shoot for some reason. 42grns of 4759 gave me an avg velocity of 2100fps. I didn't think that was bad at all. Here is one of my 100yard groups.

Next up was the same bullet with 60grns of N120. I new i would get increased velocity but here again the accuracy was surprising. Average MV was 2277. That's very immpressive with a 300grn bullet. Here again i needed the short black harvester sabot.

I shot the Lehigh .458/300 grain from my Knight and I thought it shot very well - not as tight as your .458/210s but they show real promise.  This is the first 3 I shot - so I am assuming with some time to work out a kink or two I could get them to shot really well - crap what am I talking about - @ 75 yards with 120 T7 - I am on the right track...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Not too shabby !

I ordered some of the new .459's (I think they're 277grs ?) and some MMP orange sabots for the .50 Elite.

Those should work just fine - they go down my extreme very well, and yep they are 277.  When you get them you will be totally surprised how hefty they feel + the general shape of the projectile looks like what a bullet should look like...IMO
