Federal Tactical HST
« on: June 07, 2009, 06:03:20 AM »
I have chosen the Federal Tactical 45 ACP 230 gr HST loads as my carry load in my Kimber Tactical Pro II. This load clocks 805 fps in the 4" barrel. I recovered this bullet in water filled milk jugs, sticking out the back side of jug #3.
The bullet weighed 229.9 grs and measures .906" expanded at its widest point. Pretty awesome bullet!

That looks like a pretty classical example of perfect expansion and that is not a slug I would want to become 'connected' with, thank you.

The results of your penetration tests seem to be similar to the results for +P 38 spls HPs in water.  I wonder how well they would penetrate a heavier medium such as ballistic gelatin, animal tissue, etc.

Over a year ago I shot a buck with an xd45 service with the 230 hst and it looks just like what you have there. It broke both front shoulders and I found resting under the skin on the far side. Damn good bullets. I use 180hst in my G23 40 and 124hst+p in my nines.
