Decided to go for it!
« on: June 11, 2009, 05:54:52 PM »
After joining this forum the first of the year and reading all the posts praising the 45/70 I finally decided to give it a try and see what
all the fuss was all about. Just picked an older used(NP Serial) with monte carlo stock with installed limbsaver pad, scope mount &
hammer spur, 1.5 X 4.5 Bushnell Banner scope in like new condition(less than 50 rd) for $230 with brass, dies, SH, bullets from a estate
sale. Can't wait to load up some & go to the range. Heard adding weight to the stock helps recoil (Syn Stock) can somebody tell me how
much? I will be loading about midrange 350gr cast that I got with the gun. Also any recommended loads? Thanks for any help,  Fred

Sounds like you got a good deal. I just ordered one myself. There has been alot of talking about the .45-70 recently. Do a quick search for .45-70 loads and you should find plenty of info on the subject.

You will love it. I like the 405gr Remingtons in mine, dont kick to bad and should do anything I need it to.

I put 36 ounces of #4 shot in a sock and put it in the stock of mine, but 24 oz would probably work fine.  Just pack a light filler in to take up the rest of the space so things don't rattle around.

Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.
