Which scope for 340 mag in Alaska?

Outfitting my 340 mag for bear in Alaska. Which power scope would you choose?

I use a leupold 3.9 x 14 with a 50mm objective, most of my shots have been a hundred yards or less, but the 14X is nice to get a good look before you buy the farm.

   Wouldn't a lower power on the low end be better in bear country?

a 1.75-6x42 in 30mm is the way to go in AK. Hare to see anything but hair in a 10+ and up if the brown bear decides to get up

All that aside, the variXIII is a good choice...but do not forget the variXII (now VXII) in 2-7 pwr. x 33! It is a mid price that certainly is a contender! No flies on this scope either!

I agree with bear hunter.  I have 2 - 2x7 Leupolds and love them.  Matter of fact after one caribou hunt that I had a non-Leupold fail on me I replaced everything with Leupolds.

Keep her set on 2x though. If it is far enough away that you have time to crank her up is better than having to crank it down when all you see is fur. :eek:
