has anyone here ever parkerized a NEF shotgun?
« on: May 08, 2009, 09:42:08 AM »
I asked on the rifle board but never go a answer. I picked up a youth model that is very rough externally (lots of surface rust no pitting) and was thinking about parkerizing it...
thanks

I don't see why it wouldn't work.  There is a guy on here that posted his home parkerizing bath made from a piece of 3" pvc pipe and an electric water heater element.  I think it is in the FAQ's but i could be wrong.  Do a search of the site and see what you find

I have a parkerizing tank and have done a number of guns in it, including my m2hb 50 cal. I have also done a number of barrel shrouds with the duracoat sprayon finish. My main concern is the caseharding on the side, alot of times case harding will not take parking and takes on a strange organish rust looking finish
thanks

I had my Handi rifle .45LC Duracoated and they parkerized it first for a better foundation. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work for your shotgun.  I even inquired about a frame that was case colored and the coater stated that he would have absolutley no problem coating it. PM me for a good DuraCoat reference.  I am very happy with mine, so much I have 2 more planned.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny,

I am only 45 miles from laurel costum weapons who sells the duracoating and have done a number of fire arms in it. I was looking to do a parkerized 410 or 12 ga tamer that would be a little more resistant to the elements. I already have the nickel tamers in 410 and 20 but would rather have the all black look verses the marine finish

My concern was if the case harding finish would contaiment my park solution

It shouldn't hurt the solution. There's nothing that will come loose in it. you might get a slightly different color in the CH section though. Not sure, just a thought.

Well there's no need for a reference then, Lauer Weaponry is the industry leader in DuraCoat. If you still have concerns, I would call or email them, they definitely would know for sure.

If the finish is that gone, I would take spray can in hand and have at it...A little home made camo job.  But, that's me...If you want it to look nice, the parkerizing bath sounds interesting.
