357 range report pics added
« on: June 12, 2009, 11:56:59 AM »
played hooky from work today ;)took the 357 to the range with a limited asst of loads. The only bullets i have are 158 RNL and i wanted a good target load so i loaded 5 each with 231@4.5 grs,5.0 grs,and 5.5 grs. I previously tried the max load for that combo@6.5 grs and was not impressed. The 4.5 gr load was not spectacular, the 5.0 gr load was three touching configured in a perfect triangle that a DIME will cover, and the 5.5 gr load opened ::) up to an inch again forming a perfect triangle....so two out of three loads shot an inch or less with a 158 gr lead bullet.Data says these loads go 1100-1200 fps in a revolver, i'm using a 22" barrel so i'd gain some velocity, not sure how much. And it shoots like a 22....anybody could shoot this thing comfortably all day long...when the boss comes home i'll ask permission to use the digital camera and post pics of those groups......

That's the way it is with Handi .357s.  They just love to shoot well.

Enjoy :D

If you hold steady, the 5 grain group at 100 yard might look like the 5.5 grain group at 50!

Yeah, some days the "hold steady" part is better than others  ::)if you know what I mean...best part of the day was#1 I didn't go to work ;D and#2 the groups are telling me that things are pretty much right with the gun....I wasn't 100% sure my scope(Leupold 2x7) and mounts were 100%tight and good to go,and wasn't confident my shooting was up to par,but i feel better about all that stuff after yesterday. GB, the folks that hang out here and the knowledge they have and their willingness to share it have been invaluable to me,kudos to all for your participation and positive attitudes....if the world worked like GB Outdoors, there are some terrorists out there who would be lookin for a lot better places to hide like rats than they are now......Mike
