How to ID a recurve

Hello all. I'm kinda new here, and to traditional archery. I've got an old recurve that belonged to my dad who's passed away. I've refinished it and am planning to put it to good use as soon as I pick up some needed accessories. I would really like to find out more about this bow but the manufacturer's markings wore off years ago. The remaining markings are as follows.
CAT   974
LGTH  5'2"
SER   T-262
WT @ 28" 40xx

The bow has beautiful wood laminate altering from black to very light with red fiberglass on the limbs. Can anyone help me ID this bow or point me to someone who can? It would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I think I may have found the answer to my question. I believe it's a Ben Pearson Stallion #974 from 1963. I just put the last coat on the finish and it's looking awesome. With a lil luck I'll take a deer with it later this year.

If you post the same question on StickBow and TradGang, you will find gurus that specialize in every kind of bow probably ever made.    :)  They are all good guys willing to help with any question.  A pic or two posted with the question would be a great help.

Yes: an old Ben would be my vote, but ask to get some history.

Nice to be able to shoot a bow your father owned!  The draw weight on the bow is between 40 and 45 pounds towards the higher end 43 or 44 lbs.  at a 28 inch draw. The 40## means more than 40lbs draw weight.  Looks like its a 62in bow that will help with getting a new string or two.  The actual string will be less than 62in, when yea buy a new string just tell em its a 62in bow.  Have a blast shooting arrows from it!!

Ok, thanks. I'm lucky to live about 6 or 7 miles up the road from 3 Rivers Archery, so they're gonna fix me up. ;) It turned out that the last coat of Minwax, wasn't the last coat after all, so I'm still working with it. I'll put up a pic as soon as I can. I think it's a beuatiful bow.

Thats a good lookin bow,I too have an old recurve from the early 60's that I still shoot.Take care of them and they will last a long time.
Let us know how you do this year in hunting with it. ;)

I had a BP Stallion for a while BUT the wood and class combination was no where near as nice as the one you have!!  Enjoy shooting that bow!
