Would like to know something about this.
« on: June 14, 2009, 09:52:11 AM »
I found this mixed in a bucket of 30-30 brass I have and have never seen one like it. It a piece of 30-30 brass and the headstamp is .u.s.c.co. 30-30 and the strange thing about it (to me anyway) is takes a small primer. I'm just curious about it and don't know where I got it and have only one. If anyone can tell me a little about it I would appreciate it. Thanks

I'd like to know, too; maybe from the 20's, when the cartridge was introduced?

I found in the 11th edition of Cartridges of the World that United States Cartridge Company manufactured ammo from 1869 to 1936, so that I would think would put it between 1895 when the 30-30 was first introduced and 1936. It also states that Federal manufactured match grade 30-30 brass with a small primer pocket in 1986 called the 30 American to provide the basis for forming a series of wildcat cartridges. It is also heavier than Win. brass by 9 grs. according to my scales, which would be due in part anyway to the small primer pocket. I found this much out after I posted the question, so maybe someone else can shed some more light on this.
