Bought my first FA revolver
« on: June 22, 2009, 01:53:33 AM »
Hi folks.  I am new to this forum and am really impressed by the multitude of categories available as well as the mountainous information included here.

I recently returned to IHMSA and NRA silhouette shooting after a 4+ year hiatus.  I was suprised to find that within just a couple of matches (and a lot of practice) I am back to shooting at the levels I had reached (Standing categories and mostly AAA in each class) before my long time away from the matches.

Now to the important part.  I just acquired a Model 83 Premier grade with the silhouette sights.  It is in .41 Mag and has the 10 inch barrel.  I have wrung out about all the accuracy I can from my Ruger SBH in 44 Mag and decided I needed a more accurate revolver; thus the move to the FA.  The seller also included 1,000 pieces of nickle plated Starline brass, 1500 Hornady 210 gr. Silhouette bullets (I know these have been discontinued) and two sets of Redding Dies as well as his recipe for the handloads.  I've already started loading and by this weekend will be ready to run the FA through its paces at our local range.

I look forward to learning as much as possible on the FA guns from this forum.

You've certainly bought a good gun for the Revolver and Standing categories. When you run out of the Hornadys, the Sierra 210 JHC is also very accurate.

Thanks for the welcome and the tips on the bullets to use once my Hornadys run out.  I'll have to see how the ballistic coefficient of those JHCs compare to the Hornadys.  That will give me an idea of how much I'll have to change the sight settings for each distance if at all.
