I been lurking (learning a lot from those of you who know your guns) on this site for awhile, but didn’t have anything to contribute until today…
I had purchased a used Handi-Rifle from Gander Mountain about 3 weeks ago (.223 bull barrel – scope only set-up). Took it home and fired a few shots, to get a feel for it. On shot 3 I could not get it closed. Took off the barrel and saw the barrel catch spring sticking out. Back to Gander to cash-in the whole "Gunsmith Certified" warranty deal. While chatting with the smith, I asked if they would install iron sights on the barrel. We agreed on ramped front with adjustable, dovetailed rear.
You can imagine my horror when I went to pick-up the toy only to find the rear sight’s 3/8 inch based installed into a 1 and 1/4 inch trough out of the top of my barrel!!!
The assistant manager would only say “I’ll need to discuss this with the manager, who is not in until tomorrow”.
I was expecting a real pi$$ing match when I called the store this morning. Instead, I talked to the manager (Kelly), who sounded as distressed about my problem as I was. She said she and her gun product manager (Dana) would look at the gun and call me back. Ten minutes later Kelly and Dana called back, with their deepest apologies. They said, if it was alright with me, they would like to exchange the gun for a brand-new Handi, .223, bull barrel, with iron sights that they had in stock. Heck yes! That is what I call customer service!
As a newly minted, long-term customer I would like to thank Kelly, Dana, and the folks at the Sheffield, Ohio store for their commitment to their customers.
Thought you guys might want to know…
