Dang it all!
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:46:01 PM »
Just got the news that the shoulder that has been bothering me a while  require surgery.  The cartiledge is torn, and they said I had just a few strands left attaching my bicep muscle, so I can't lift anything until after the surgery.  No shooting on the shoulder for 6 months!!!   Muzzle loader season opens in four months.  Dang it!   I may have to hunt me up a 44 cap and ball.  Can't sit home and not hunt.

Tim

I've been working on that Tim, but I'm less than pleased.  Probably would do ok from a stand if I had plenty of time.  I have a big buck down in the swamps that I have tried for for two years.  Last pics I got on a game cam showed 14 points.  So thick where he is that I have walked him up once and couldn't raise my gun for the brush.  Can only use muzzleloader, (public land), and can't put up a tree stand.  I'll have to trade me up a Ruger 44 cap n ball and practice quick drawing I guess.

What the hay, I'm just gripeing to be gripeing.  We also have short time from work so maybe I'll have more days to hunt. ;D

What's important is getting yerself fixed and healthy again, best of luck on your surgery and getting back to normal, I've completely missed a hunting season due to health issues, so I know what yer facing.  ;)

A couple years back I had an accident and fell, only to get up with a lower half of a broken beer bottle( not mine) jammed in my wrist. Took it out and it started to squirt.... long story short ER, many stitches, and my right trigger hand out of comission for several weeks. Sucks shooting offsides, it's like throwing a baseball offhand, ya look like a girl and the results are even worse ;D But with practice it can be done. Needless to say I was very happy to be healed up and off shooting again.
Sorry bout your injury, I hope you a speedy recovery when the time comes. And if it comes to it, shoot that six slinger :o

Look at the bright side. You are missing it for a sugery. The last hunting season I missed was because I was deployed to Iraq. The way it is looking I may miss part of this hunting season as well. I wish you well and hope you have a speedy recovery.  :)

Sorry to hear about you needing surgery, and blowing the season.  I would NOT use a cap and ball.44 revolver on that 14 point.  I'd use a Kentucky or Trapper pistol loaded with 60 -70 gr. fffg.  My .44 colts and Rems. won't shoot through both sides of a 55 gal. drum.  A .22 rifle will.  A Kentucky rips a great hole through both sides.   A Walker might do it, but I don't own one so I can't tell you.

The several deer shot here with Kentuckys, loaded with PRB's or conicals either dropped in their tracks or only went a few yards.

Had shoulder surgery two years ago in May, now they say I need to get the other one done as well so I understand.  I just told the Doc that I am going to wait until after Bow season as least so he can put off buying that new Jag unitl then! :).  Anyway, good luck with surgery and no matter what people tell you..............Rehab sucks!!!!!! >:(

Shoulder surgery sucks I've had both sides done already and the bad news is I just schedualed another one for July 17th the left tendion is torn again. Worst thing about them is the 4 weeks they immobilize it then the rehab I know the bicep deal is even longer rehab so I don't think my seasons will be to screwwed up but I am afraid my Traditional bow hunting life will now have to be very limited to my 40#recurve. Looks like I will now have to sit down and try and figure out how to get the best money for the several custom longbows that I have collected over the last 20 yrs can't never get what ya paid for them or what they are worth. Good luck on the BP pistol there are many bullets out there that you can get a proper set up to do the job with. Kurt

PHATINJUN: ONCE YOU ARE HEALED you can weight train to rehabilitate to greater streangth than you had before. Get WEIDERS' Muscle and Fitness magazine and it will have proper techniques and programs. You have to be paitent but if you are HEALED properly it is doable. You don't have to do complete workouts, just specific to the muscle groups affected and thier opposeing groups. Your rehab clnic should cover this thoroughly. You must go slow and be careful.

I appreciate the concern fellas' but I'll be fine, just have to mentally adjust.  I don't do well with not being able to do what I want.   Can't go to surgery until July 16, and they will do 4 procedures on my shoulder.  My right arm will be immobilized for 6 weeks, and I will have about 6 mos. of rehab.  They expect I will get back to about 85% if I'm fortunate.

Sweet thing has volunteered to go and shoot for me.

Might I add a suggestion?  Have a left hand (Off hand) thumb hole stock mounted behind the working end of your rifle and sight in a 40/50mm red dot on top of it.  This is very ambidextrous and you can still reload that front stuffer or breach loader with the "Weak" hand.  Hope this helps.
