Range day with the 30-06
« on: July 15, 2009, 09:15:26 AM »
I did get a chance to day to try the 30-06 barrel that has been in the gun safe now about 2 years.I have the 7MM-08 barrel that I did replace it with.
I was surprise the recoil was not bad and we put it threw a chrony some one had at the range
165 grain SP loaded with 50.0 grains if IMR 4350 FPS ran around 2450
I did also compare the 7MM-08 with the 140 grain close to 2750.
I always favored the 30-06 because I like the ejector set -up compared to the exractor.
I have no need for 2 barrels so I take a few more range session with the 30-06 and see which one I will part with.
I just purchased a box of Noslers 140 grains the other day they seem to group excellent powder charge was IMR 4350 45.0 grains

I can see it now, you're gonna end up with a dilemma..... two barrels that shoot excellent, you'll just have to get another frame to keep as a backup!!  :D

As everyone knows I carry a Handi 30-06 90% of the time.  I've got over 50 rifles to choose from, with six of them be 30-06s.  I'm in the woods almost everyday, and live in Grizzly country.  With the 30-06 you can hunt anything in North America, plus it is the standard everything else is judged by.

OK it's a little harder in the recoil department, but can your 7mm08 hit and kill a Wolf size target (Whitetail) at 500 yards consistently.  With a little practice the 30-06 can and will.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I went back out to day I have my mind made up going to keep the 30-06
shoots excellent and I love the ejector.
I tried another new load 39.5 IMR 3031 165 remington core lock bullet no problem with the recoil.
