Thursday / will work for bullets
« on: June 18, 2009, 05:28:14 AM »
Good morning all , Sort of a cool undecided day here in North Montana .

Yesterday  I had friend John cut the rest of the bases for the tatgets we are building for the cannon shoot .
Friend John has 2 grandsons who are in to "Gopher Hunting"  Big time .  seems their only problem is lack of bullets to shoot . One asked if I would sell them some 17HMR  . "No , but you could work for some " . "what kind of work ? "  "Weed eating "  a moment of thought ..... " How much time for a box of HMR ? "  "2 hours"
A big smile from both ...." Yes we will be out "  So I came home got both weed eaters ready ..... I have a high wheel string trimmer and a Sthil  . They did a good 2 hours work , cleaned up around all the grain bins , equipment lot , fuel tanks , and back yard . Then We went hunting . I think I am on to a good deal here . They both shot up all their ammo and need more work to shoot more  :>)
The boys are 11 and 13 , good hard working boys .  Sorry no pictures  :)

Wonderful place and State you got. :)
In contrast here in Canada you would have broken at least two federal laws. Providing ammo for a minor :o and allowing them to carry firearms. ::)

That's a good one Southpaw. You gave those boys a nice little lesson in the value of working, and you got a few chores done around your place at the same time. Win/Win situation - everyone goes home happy.

BBF, you're just going to have to pack your family up and move to the States. I figure you'd have at least 6 - 12 months of enjoying whats left of our gun laws before everything goes to hell. ;)

Here's the targets Southpaw made for the upcoming Victorian shoot.

The shield is 30 inches tall by 14 inches wide and is mounted on a popper knock down target base. I tested these target at 100 yards.  When you shot you do not hear or see the target go down. The 480 grain bullets put these targets down quick and hard.

Ernie also made some Gopher targets as a back up for the rook and Rabbit shoot.  Good thing, as our Rook and Rabbit target maker was in an accident and won't make the shoot.

There are five iron gophers in this picture, look at the top of the picture just right of center and you wll see the base of one of the targets.  That is where it landed after getting hit by 120 grain 310 Cadet.

So I get to enjoy all of that 2nd Amendment freedom for a few months and then start all the BS over again that I went through here?
We have at least some time left before the next federal election and hopefully the present Govt will prevail or add seats

Of all the family and friends We have in Alberta , they have but registered one .22 rim fire , the ones with the bent barrels or rusty tubes. They hand load all the center fires . No restrictions yet on reload compo nets . Go Figure . Just another Government Boon doggle  / waste of tax payers money .

These boy when they are @ home take the 4 wheeler or Jeep out hunting on their dads place. Ammo is the problem for the pair .   So they are always looking for work .
Their Dad is a Federal Marshal , their Mother is compliance officer @ local private prison. They live on a farm owned by Grandparents.
