powder selections
« on: June 21, 2009, 05:13:57 AM »
With all the stuff I load for, years ago I decided to pare down the powders I use .Now I buy the 8 pound cans instead of all the one pounders. Ive paired it down to the following and it works well. For rifles H4895,H4831IMR 4350 and AA5744 for my cast rifle loads. For handguns,WW296 WW231 and AA7 for those dang 10MM pistols. I keep the odd can of Green Dot for the shotguns. What do you use?

Way to many ::) There are at least two cans of the old Norma stuff around. I have no cartridges to reload that require real slow powders any more. The "slowest" powders would be for a .243 Win and 284 Win.

I don't load heavy bullets into a 30-06 anymore so mid range  burning rate powders are fine, I do have more use for fast rifle and one shotgun and BP sub. powder.

Breaking it down I could live with a 4350/H-414 type, a 4064/4895 type, RL-7/4198 type, and a 2400/H-110 type burning rate.

You may not know this, but we do have a "Hand Loading for Rifles & Handguns" forum.

I'm down to four.  760, 748, IMR-7828, and 700-X for shotgun.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I do know but thought this would fit in the more general arena. Maybe I was wrong. If the moderator so deems it necessary to move, have at it. :)

I moved it to where it should have been placed to begin with. For some reason folks are beginning to want to use the Pot Bellied Stove Forum for all their posts even when we have very specific forums for the subject matter of the posts. When I see them I move them where they belong and NEVER leave a shadow to tell them where it went.
