I have a real tall front Handi front sight from a Versa-pack barrel, you would have to grind it down I bet.  If you want it I will send it off.  Larry

That would be great Larry.  Being able to use the peep sight will tighten up the groups and make me a lot quicker.  I spend a lot of time with the opens waiting for my eyes to clear and have the correct sight picture.  Let me know if you need my address.  I will post pics when this thing is all done.

Thanks again Larry, now I owe you two!

i put the wgrs peep on a sportster 22lr...it required a .680 overall height front sight to make it work...when the rear sight is in the middle of it's elevation range the .680 is right on the money elevation wise and i have lots of adjustment up or down if i change loads....measure barrel diameter at the rear sight and at the front sight and post it and and i can figureout a front sight height for ya...Mike

since you reamed a 22lr barrel to 22 hornet your measurements are the same as my sportster...it's the same barrel. As i previously posted mine is perfect @ .680....at 50 yds the Remington gold hollow points are right on elevation wise and the rear peep is in the middle of it's
adjustment range...i can go up or down as needed....somewhere in the .650-.680 range for front sight height(top of barrel to top of front sight) should work for you.....Mike

The sight I am sending measures .650 and is from a VersaPack.  Send the address again, I have a short memory.  Larry

that should work....as a matter of fact i'd like to hear about how it works out...just an idea, put the sights on then clamp the barrel in something, sight down the sights to see what they're aiming at,then look down the bore...you should be looking pretty close to where the sights were "aimed"....

Larry PM inbound.  Zoner, I will post how it works.  It sounds like it should be just fine.

Thanks everyone.

I received the front sight yesterday and have it loctited in place with the factory screw.  According to my math this new height should put me right where I need to be - 1" high at 50 yards.  I should have a chance to try it over the weekend and will report back.

Thanks again Larry!

I think a 22 Hornet with a 1-6" or 1-7" barrel would be neat for lobbing heavy bullets like 80 or 90 grain.  Seat em long and you could get 2000 fps!

Was out at the lease today.  There is no official range so I had to improvise.  I had other rifles to zero so I decided on 100 yards even though this hornet will be an open sighted short range gun, probably max 100 yards.  I didn't have a bench rest so I set my shooting box on top of a 5 gallon bucket and sat on the ground behind it.  Not perfect but better than sitting with elbows on knees.

Anyway, I started with the peep sight at its lowest setting and took a couple off hand sighter shots at clay bird remnants at a lasered 58 yards.  Elevation was about dead on and windage was a little left so I made a small adjustment to the peep and took another shot, barely hi and dead on for wind at 58 yards, perfect.  I then sat down on my improvised 100 yard range (lasered) and fired 5 shots at the target.  I went down and took a look and the 5 were in 3" with 4 in just under 2", with the 4 shots centered near my aiming point.  For a wobbly rest and iron sights at a scope sight target (meaning the aiming point was not really big enough for a non magnified sight) I was extremely happy.  I will of course try it again on a decent bench rest with a good black on beige aiming center and fully expect even better results.

I then had a great time shooting off hand at small targets in the 50-75 yard range some stationary and some floating down the river.  To say I am happy with the results of this project is an under statement.  Larry you have helped bring me back to the days 20 years ago walking the woods with my low wall hornet that I foolishly sold.

Here is a pic of the rifle along with my 16" 44Mag and the BC barrel that interchanges with the hornet.  I will make a new forend for the hornet similar to the 44mag forend.
