1894 did the job
« on: December 04, 2009, 08:21:10 AM »
Last Friday I used my (new to me) 1894 44mag to harvest a nice doe. We stepped off the range of the shot at 83 yards and she ran only 50 or so DOWN the hill. I used Winchester 240 grain  white box ammo and am impressed. I topped this gun with an old Tasco 4x scope and can clover leaf at 100 yards if I do my part. This is by far my favorite gun and will now be retiring my old Brit 303 after close to 30 years of hunting with it.

They are fun guns, congrats on the doe. I am currently working on getting mine ready for a little hog hunting.

Nice going Pike60,  I've been using the Winchester white box and PMC 240 gr SP, for a few years on feral hogs from my 1894 CBII.  I have a box of Magtec, but haven't tried them out yet..

If you reload try the 240 grn Hornady XTP over 21 grains of IMR 4227. My throws those just beautiful and I have had excellent results on Iowa whitetail. If you don't reload send me a PM and I will buy your brass so you can purchase some more of your favorite rounds.
