Need help with ordering front sight on Winchester 94!
« on: May 31, 2009, 10:56:42 PM »
Hey guys,

I recently bought an Winchester 94AE (30-30, Ranger style) in immaculate condition. I doesn't even have a safety something I assumed all AE models had. There's just one thing. The previous owner kinda messed up the front sight. That is, the actual sight, not the ramp or sight hood. So I am trying to find a replacement sight and this is the closest I have come so far (see link):

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16221&title=RIFLE%20SIGHT%20BEAD

The problem is though, I do not know which alternative (in terms of stock numbers) to get? I do not have access to my rifle cause I am at work like 10000 miles away.

Do you guys have any suggestions to which one(s) might fit?

Thanks!

What's wrong with the front sight??  Is it buggered beyond effective use??  These sights are easily removed with a front sight tool so as not to bust off the screw that holds the ramp to the barrel.

Unfortunately, you will not know which sight blade to get if you do not have the original to measure and you will need some technical help from the Brownells folk to figure that one out.  It requires you to measure the height of your front sight blade so as to get the rifle to print at the correct elevation at 100 yds.   Brownells may be able to help you with a 'standard height replacement' if they sell those - most often they sell replacement sight blades of different heights to enable the shooter to bring poi more to poa.

You can also try Winchester - they used to be under Browning, in Mo. but they should also have a website.

I would try calling either Brownells or Winchester first to see if they can help.

You also haven't said whether your rifle uses the original open rear barrel sight, or has a peep sight installed - a different height front sight blade would be required for either type rear, the peep needing a higher front than the open would.

According to Numrich Arms, the M94AE Ranger uses an issue front sight blade .575" high up to serial #6,000,000 - over which uses a lower height sight blade, .450".

I would add .100" to those heights, if the rifle has a receiver peep sight. (YMMV)
