My second Tikka ...
« on: July 11, 2009, 09:18:11 AM »
After searching, I finally found a real deal on a T3 7mm-08 synthetic/blue. A guy won this rifle in a $1.00 raffle and I bought/traded for it still new in the box. I used Talley LW low mounts and a new Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-10x40mm Short Action compact scope. This makes a nice, solid setup. I have loaded some tests rounds using Varget and 140gr Accubonds and 140gr Nosler BT bullets. I should be able to make it to the range in a day or two. The trigger came set at 2.75lbs ... perfect for my needs so I won't adjust it. I will use this rifle for muleys, pronghorn, and an occassional coyote.

My first Tikka is a Tikka Varmint SS in .308 and it is a sweet shooting rifle.

I really would like to find myself in a similar situation. A twin to my .300 WM, I keep eyeballing them, and really think it would be a great compliment. The .300 seems like a lot of overkill on a whitetail, that 7mm08 just seems about perfect.

or a t3 in 25-06.  Picked one up for $450 scoped with a bushnell 4-12x40 on it and it shoots a 3/8" group.

I would love a T3 in 7-08 But Beretta is not importing that caliber for leftys. Good luck with it and post some pics of gun and groups.

I went to the range today with four different firearms. I couldn't wait to fire some reloads with this 7mm-08 but I only fired nine shots ... three shot groups. I used this recipe to start off this new combo ... new Winchester brass - CCI BR2 primers - Nosler 140gr Accubond - OAL 2.750" - Varget powder (6 rounds of 41.6gr and 3 rounds of 41.8gr)

The first group was 1.10" up 3" and to the left 2." Made scope adjustment and here are rounds #4, 5, and 6 down a new rifle barrel ...

The 3rd group was 41.8gr of Varget and measured .872." Needless to say, I doubt if this Tikka will be my last. I know it is only nine rounds fired and there is a lot of work to do ... but it is a good start. Scope is a new Bushnell Elite 3200 3-10x40mm.
