Okay... before I jump off and order one...

Do all the PUMA 92's have the ability to load from the mag tube AND the normal loading gate on the side?

I can't even look at one since I live in Germany and can't find any in gun shops close to me.  I'll take my chances on the rifle but I just want to know the details first.

No, not all of them can be loaded both ways.  They are fine little rifles that pack a big punch.  I got mine out last night just to clean & oil it again and shoulder it a few more times.  I really don't know what it is about this rifle that I like so much, but of all the rifles I've ever bought my only regret is that I didn't buy two of these.

Naw... didn't help... put in the mail, I'm sure that'll cure the problem.  I'll send it right back... once my tour is over.  Did I mention I might put in for three more years here?

How do I tell over the 'net if it is that way or not?  I'm probably going to order one from a store in KY so that it'll be waiting on my when we go on leave in July.  I definitely want to be able to load from the front.

I'll probably just go for a .44 mag in the 20" blued round barrel.  Or maybe the CH reciever.  Or maybe the stainless model.  Or maybe the long barrel...

I think Budsgunshop.com has a pretty good deal going on the Puma rifles.  They could probably confirm with you over the phone that the rifle does or doesn't have the feed tube like you want.  I think you'll be happy with it.

The Puma 92 XP includes the tube feed along with the gate feed.

Anybody seen one of their Wounded Warrior versions?

I "THOUGHT" that only .454 & .480 Model 92's had the threaded mag tubes (because recoil pulls out regular mag tubes) that could be  loaded through, besides the receiver side gate - with all other chamberings (.357/.44/.45Colt) a normal, press-fit mag tube held by crosspins, with the sole loading option the receiver gate.

The XP came out Jan 2008, but I've not seen many around, like the Scout model.

The new Rossi catalog from Taurus USA (the current importer of Brazilian products) lists only the .454 carbine as having the option of tube loading.  I do not know about the Chiappa line from Italy.

I have only seen one XP model and it was in .454, stainless, setup as a scout model with the rear sight removed and the rail mount and a scope installed. Nice looking rifle but not my cup of tea.

I have the .44Mag, 20" Octagon barrel, case hardened receiver. Very nice rifle...too nice for a truck gun so I just bought another from Bud's Gun Shop. This one is a 16" carbine in .44Mag, blued, with a round barrel. I plan on getting a Marble's Tang sight for the 20", nice thing is that that model comes pre drilled and tapped for a tang sight.

No pic of the 16" because I haven't received it yet.

So... it looks like I'll have to go with the .454 even though I don't really want one.  I guess I could get into reloading for it and then load to .45 power levels.  I really don't like shooting short cartridges in the long chamber.  I had to clean and scrub for quite a while to get the ring out of the chambers in my .357's.  Someone had fired a bunch of .38 in them.  Not sure I'll ever get it all out.  I would prefer to shoot lower powered .357's.  Likewise with the .454/.45.  Not a big deal really.  I just wanted the .44 since it's a little easier to get ammo for it.  Hope I can get it all ready for pick up before I go on leave next month.

     If you really want a 44mag they are out there.  I don't have anything against the 454, but if it's not what you want why buy it?

Well, just like on 22lr tube feds, it's one more part that can break or get lost. If you are worried about the loading gate being stiff like on the Marlins, don't fret, much easier to load my Puma 44 then it was to load the Marlin. I personally don't see a need for front loading as I would think side loading would be faster then having to fiddle around with a removable tube. Plus you can top off your tube as you go.

Check if the scout model has that feed tube like you want.  I thought for sure that I've seen a 92 in 44mag with a feed tube that you like.

   I agree that I can't see an advantage of the feed tube when putting rounds in the rifle, because of the feed gate.  I could definately see how it would be handy at the end of a days hunt when unloading the rifle.  Instead of flinging rounds all over it'd be nice to just pour them out into your hand.

I own 3 92's and they are great guns. I use mine for cowboy shooting and have a 20 in stainless in 45 Colt that was worked on by Steve Young. It's as slick as butter and I would never let this one go. I think if you have a chance to use a regular 92 that you will forget about the tube loading. As has been stated the only advantage would be in unloading and not having to cycle rounds.

This rifle sold for $365 brand new.  Heck of a deal for a new 92 with a feed tube.
