Savage 110 Age?

Hi-

Please let me know if there is a posting to this effect already - I do not wish to be redundant.

I am tossing the idea around of buying a used Savage 110 .270win.  It is a bit older with a serial number of

 F294496

Wondering if anyone can help me get an approx. age on this gun?  I think I can score it for about $200, worth it?  Good condition.

The age isn't so important as to what type it is.  Very old ones had a recessed breach barrel like a Remington has, one or two years had weaver type scope rails built onto the receiver in one piece, neither of these are as desireable as the ones that have a flat breach on the barrel and no built in scope bases.  More moder ones have the front and rear mounting for the scope bases round, earlier ones have a flat mounting area for the scope base at the rear and round at the front.  These are just fine, just know what you have.  Larry

Gave a call over to Savage and turns out it was made in either 1991 or 92'
Great, clean gun.  Got it from a local shop for $220 w/ old school Bushnell fixed 4x glass.
Now, hittin the range... then some mulies!

I think you did well with that price.  I have purchased a couple older Savage 110E's in .270 during the past year or so.  One was $189 the other $220.  Both shoot extremely well. 

The used scope could be hit or miss.  I've had decent luck with a couple used Bushnells that have been on used rifles.  Even if it turns out broken, $220 is still a good price for a decent Savage.

I have a Savage 110 (Circa 1990) in 7mm Rem Mag and it IS my favorite gun.  It was the first deer rifle I ever purchased and now that I have many many more, worth a lot more, I still use the Savage as my primary go to deer rifle.  I've put 40-50 deer in the freezer with it and it has NEVER let me down.  It shoots great as well, just kicks like a mule because it's so light.

me too only i went thru several good reputation make of rifle.. then got around to the savage 110..
 i knew when it sighted in ,,in 4 shots at the hundred that this was not like the other rifles..
 its been all uphill from there....the only limitation to these 110 is ballistics of my cal 30 06,,, an my ability..
 i continue to be amazed in this age of money money.. that two products exist through it all. one the timex watch an 2 bthe savage bolt 110... id rather have a timex than a rolex if i my life depended on it keeping time no matter what... the same with the savage..now in grimy country i would cover the action  with an p cover ,,as the accutrigger while good can foul real easy in dirty conditions..ive even thought about getting the same gun in stevens ..this being just savage without accu trigger. slim ps put you a limb saver on it ..they come withum already onum now..it makes it a true pleasure to shoot...luck to you now..
