EMF Hartford 1892
« on: August 15, 2009, 03:54:38 PM »
Someone on another thread mention EMF.  I’ve seen a few EMF Hartford 1892 carbines (20” barrel) lately.  Anyone know anything about them?  Are they any good?  Think I also read the other day that Rossi was bought by Taurus, and declined to renew the contract with EMF.  Wonder what Taurus wanted with them and if they plan to sell them as Taurus rifles.

Mostly a true statement but the '92s have always been from Rossi and Taurus bought Rossi many many years ago not just recently. I think all the EMF handguns and all rifles but '92s are likely Uberti but some might be from other Italian makers.

Yep, the EMF Hartford '92s were by Rossi. From EMF's website:
Quote
Note:  In December 2008, Rossi Firearms sold their 1892 rifle manufacuring to Taurus International.  Taurus has declined to continue manufacturing the Hartford 1892's for EMF; therefore, as the current inventory of EMF Hartford Model 1892's is depleted,  various models will no longer be available.

The EMF Great Western II pistols are by Pietta.

As far as the Hartford '92 rifles, they're good guns and very strong. They're even better if you get one slicked up by Nate Kiowa Jones at http://www.stevesgunz.com/(or order one from him already slicked up).

I didn't know that not that I ever had a Great Western but the pair of EMF revolvers I did have were Uberti made. In fact I think I recall having a total of three of the EMF revolvers that were Uberti made.

Most, if not all, of the earlier EMF revolvers were made by Uberti, with the exception of their cap and ball revolvers (I bought a pair of '58 Remington cap and ball revolvers around 7 years ago from EMF. They're Piettas. I still shoot them). I think Uberti stopped supplying EMF when Uberti was bought by Beretta. That's about the time when EMF started selling their Great Western II revolvers and sourced them from Pietta.

By the way, the GWII Alchemista is named for Alessandro Pietta, who's SASS alias is ...... Alchemista. I met him at End of Trail this year. Really nice guy, very friendly.
