1858 Remington......WOOHOO!
« on: December 31, 2008, 08:41:29 AM »
Wound up buying this:

Went for traditional blued 1858 Remington .44 cal:

Cabela's -- 1858 New Army .44 Caliber Revolver

Loading accessories got:

Remington powder flask with 24 gr spout...

Extra spouts in 18, 21, 30, 48, 72, and 84 grs...

200 .44-.45 dry lubed woven wool wads...

A box of 100 Hornady .451" Swaged round balls...(Pic shows the .454 but on the reviews most everyone used the .451's with 30 gr of powder to good effect)

Used my gift card of $150

Used my Cabela's club points from my Cabela's Visa ($129.54)

And yesterday Got a Cabela's "Bucks" card in the mail for $30 more...
Didn't think it would work with the gift card and Cabela's points but it did!

Grand total after all this?

$3.04 :D

Me happy BIG time!!!!

Merry CHRISTmas, what a deal...and I thought the $20 Gander Mtn gift card I got was great especially when they had alot of B/p goodies on their clearance table.  You know they're addictive.  I've been shooting alot more with the B/p pistol than my others, cheaper per round than any centerfire and a lot more bang than a 22.

NRA Joe - thanks for the photo of the ashtray - it brought back many memories.  My folks had two ashtrays like this back in the 1950's - one with a 58 Remington on it and one with a 60 Colt Army.  Even as a kid, I was interested in the Civil War (started collecting when I was in the 4th grade!) and have been collecting for over 45 years.  I'd forgotten about the ashtrays until I saw your photo.  My folks are gone and I had to clean their house out three years ago - the ashtrays weren't there so probably they got rid of them when they stopped smoking.  At any rate - I remember liking them as a kid because of the guns on them.  Thanks for the memories and no, it is not a "weird" thing to collect!  It just goes along with the hobby!  Have a good one!
If a pair of '51 Navies were good enough for Billy Hickok, then a single one on my right hip is good enough for me.  Besides, I'm probably only half as good as he was anyway . . . . now . . . how do I load this confounded contraption?

That is a nice looking Remington.
I have never had a problem with mine.
They are truly one of the best gun ever made.
