My "tacky" Hawken...
« on: June 06, 2009, 10:53:48 AM »
Some of you guys wanted to see pics of my Hawken after I added antiqued brass tacks to it.

Guess it didn't come out too bad for my 1st try.

Didn't want to go overboard.

Put 40 balls through it yester day at the range...loads of fun...just did the stock today.

Haven't done the other side yet..probably finish tomorrow.  ;D

Darn, here I thought you meant tacky as in beer can and flamingo tiki lights for the back of a pick up truck.

I once belonged to  a black powder club near Davidsonburg, MD., and they permitted anything that loaded from the muzzle.  While I was shooting one day, a guy showed up with a fancy target rifle with reciever sights and a thumbhole stock, complete with palm rest and hooked butt plate.  Only all the metal was chrome plated and the wooden stock had been painted metal flake green.   The only thing missing were fuzzy pink dice hanging from the fore stock.

Here's my tacky T/C. It started life as a late model Pennsylvania Hunter with the recoil pad which I concealed under a leather wrap. I slimmed the wrist and forestock, added an entry thimble, fluted the comb, added a "primitive peep sight" and tacked it up. I also have a 28 gauge, 30 inch, smoothbore half octagon barrel for it, which is what it wears most of the time. I forgot to photograph the other side which wears a dragon sideplate.

Geeese Pete!  you got some neat stuff!   ;D

what kind of sight is that on the rifle?  Did you make the knife?  What revolver goes in the holster?  What is the meaning of life...  :P

What is beauty? What is truth?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

If the temperature is zero outside today and it's going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold will it be?

If someone with a split personality threatens to commit suicide, is it a hostage situation?

Should crematoriums give discounts for burn victims?

When your pet bird sees you reading the newspaper, does he wonder why you're just sitting there, staring at carpeting?

Well Richard, looks like I'm also guilty for dragging the thread off topic. :-[  But you had to go and get philosophical and I just followed you into it like a lamb heading for the slaughter... ;D

Joe, sorry for the Philosophical interlude. I like your Tacky Hawken.
