Taurus Warranty service
« on: May 07, 2009, 03:43:41 AM »
Well, I'm going to chime in again at how pleased I am with Taurus 'lifetime warranty' customer service.  My blued Gaucho came from the factory with the wrong height front sight.  My other two have .330 hight front sights but this one had on a .300 height.  The results of that was a gun that would likely have been on target at 300 or 400 yards, but way high in between.  I called Taurus last summer on it and they said I could send it in or they would send me a new front sight.  Since it was summer, I didn't want to be without it, (I could still hit well with 'kentucky windage') so I waited for the sight.  Since it was still on backorder in the fall, I decided to send it in.  I just got it back but the delay was not Taurus fault, they only had it three weeks.  My gunsmith was in the hunting season rush when I dropped it off and he put it aside and forgot about it.  I called him in January and asked about it and he said he forgot but would get it out right away.  It's been back at his place since Feb, but we wintered in Texas and didn't get back until a short time ago.  This is the first chance I have had to get over to pick it up.  I am pleased.  They would not just change the front sight as it would mar the finish, so they put a whole new barrel into it.  I would not have gone to that trouble myself, but since they did, I am pleased.  It now shoots where it looks and shoots well.  One more plus for Taurus and their service.  44 Man

Thanks for the compliment Tim.  Yes, this is the rig that now accompany's me wood's walking and hunting.  I use a 'John Wayne' style 2 1/2" soft roughout belt with it and it is very comfortable.  44 Man

Nice rig!

Where'd you get the belt?  I've been wanting one like that but never knew anyone who actualy had one.

At Law, you can have a similar belt from most of the quality leather places out there.  El Paso Saddlery is not the cheapest, but you will never be dissapointed with their quality or workmanship.  This belt was made for me (I got to help and learn how) by a friend, Chip Frick.  He is an excellent leather crafter and has been helping me learn also.  This style of belt if very confortable but the down side is that with time, the top edge will roll a little from the weight of the gun.  While most are made with two layers of soft leather, Chip used three on mine to minimize that.  I am very pleased with it!  If you are interested PM me and I'll find out what Chip would charge to make another one for you.  44 Man

44 man if I were into SA firearms, I would without a doubt want one of those rigs you got there.

Montanan, a rig like this will do honor to any firearm put into it!  I'm thinking of making a floral carved western style holster for my engraved Colt 1911, wouldn't that kick butt!  I just need to get some more 'naked' leather to work with.  I'll have to holler at Chip again.  44 Man

44man, I have a similar rig that was made by El Paso Saddlery. Why didn't you tell them that ask that the belt is the "MONEY BELT". I bet you didn't want them to know where you kept all that gold!! The belt is the same that was worn by the Duke in all his late movies including his last one THE SHOOTIST

Yup, El Paso makes it as a 'money belt' (they are an excellent company!) but mine was sewn shut for durability.  44 Man

Happy to hear that things worked out well.  I have a PILE of wrong parts that Taurus has sent to me to go with my PT 1911, which is a nice gun, but I finally just gave up on Taurus, because they couldn't come close to sending me what I needed, and paid for.  It was another sight issue, like yours.

The warranty and service experience for me will, unfortunately, steer me away from an otherwise pretty nice product line.  I sent them a post, very nicely worded and polite, about my experience.

One post I read several moths back was from a gentleman who worked in the US parts and service center for Taurus.  He said that they had parts all over the place, the floor, the benches, under racks, mislabeled, etc.  It is no wonder that they struggle in this area.
