tripped and refinished the 527
« on: July 11, 2009, 05:07:30 AM »
The rifle didn't need to be refinished but I was bored and needed a project so I refinished this stock. I stripped it using a spray on stripper and then started off with a 220 grit and worked up to 320 grit. I put 10 coats of tru-oil on and now stain. I sanded with 000 fine steel wool between each coat. I am very pleased with the end result and how the grain of the wood is much more noticeable. So, here is the end result.

Very nice Simple Man (did you get a name change? Weren't you CZMan a few days ago?). My 550 American looks like it has some very nice wood, with lots of figure, under the peanut butter finish. I'd like to do the same thing to it as a project over the winter. Your's looks great! Do you have any "before" pictures. It would be cool to compare the before and after.
