Got my G2!
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:23:38 PM »
Well, I got all the horse trading done this afternoon and I am now the proud new owner of a lightly used G2 in 35 Remington with the Super 14 barrel with iron sights.  This is how it ended up working out.  I traded my Beretta 391 12ga for a Ruger 77 VT .223 Rem with Leupold VX II 6-18 x 40 AO.  I decided to see how it shot and it put 5 75gr A-Maxes int .25" right off the bat.  My buddy was impressed and wanted it so I traded him the Ruger less scope for a scopeless Remington Mountain Rifle in 280.  I took the 280 to the shop and traded even for the G2.  My buddy is happy, I'm happy, the gun shop is happy, and I still have a nice Leupy to try and trade for a nice lever action in 45 Colt.  I haven't heard yet from the new Beretta owner to know if he's happy or not.

Tomorrow I go to the range to see how the Contender shoots.

Sounds like some of my horse tradin'!  I usually loose my horse too!  We should call it "donkey-trading" instead of "horse-trading", because I never really sure if I lost my A$$ or not, but I'm usually happy with what ever I end up with.

I guess that's all that matters. ;D

Congrats!  That's some good trading.

I did a similar thing recently, where I threw 4 guitars, an amp, and 3-4 guns into the air, and walked away with a banjo, and a couple of nicer guns (imo).  Sometimes you just got to go for it.

My wife came up with that analogy:  I used to hang around on a musician's forum, and we were constantly trading stuff back and forth.  She said we should all just line up, throw our stuff in the air, take a step to the right, and grab what came down.  I liked it!

The G2 didn't shoot well but when I cleaned it, I found the rear sight loose so I tightened it.  Guess It's back to the range to try again.  Recoil was stout but still less than the 4.5" Reeder Alaskan 454C that I shoot on rare occasions.  Maybe with handloads and a scope, this gun will shoot well.

  • You mean this isn't the road to the shooting range

Should shoot about 50 meters really good with open sights, accounting for trigger pull.  Anything more, 100 meters, and you need great eyesight and lots of patience.

My old style contender with a 10"  9mm Luger barrel hits good at 50.  ;)

Like all Contenders it should shoot like a champ with the right load, a loose rear sight and you won't be impressed. Have another go and repost!

Thanx, Russ
