30.06 sight-in
« on: July 09, 2009, 02:20:27 PM »
Just sighted in my .06 with a Leupold scope and survivor stock...Took two boxes, and a few temper tantrums, but all's good...

1st group was a perfect triangle (all sides equal) about 5" apart....yuk...Took forearm off and got about 2" group. Loosely tightened stock and back to 5" triangle....Stock tightened as tight as I could turn the knob by hand, and wer're good at 1.5"!! Yeah!!! (Hey, good enough for me!).

Intersting was off the shelf Win. 150 and 165 grainers grouped identical....That's cool!

Happy shooting!

Has anyone tried a 180 gr Remington Round Nose core locked factory load in a handy?

I have my Handi 30-06 zeroed for 200 yards with 165gr Sierra Boat Tails.  At 100 yards my 180gr Nosler Partitions hit the same spot as the 165s.  At 200 yards they are lower.  The 165s are the ones I shoot if the range is on out to 500 yards.  Occasionally I will rezero with the 180s on out to 200 Yards, for a particular hunt, but I return to the 165s when I get back.

If I feel I need 200 or 250gr bullets in the 06 I carry a Remington Pump.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The 180 RN factory load is a very good shooter in my 700 bolt and I was just curious. That gun doest't like boat tails. eddie
