Contender cocking
« on: September 29, 2003, 07:47:46 AM »
I find that having to break open the contender after you decide not to shoot and have let the hammer done is annoying.  I believe that the encore will permit one to uncock the gun and recock without having to break open the gun.  Has anyone found a fix or modification?

I have had both the contender frame and the encore.  Even with my contender frame I never had to actually break the action open.  I just pull back part way on that (what ever its called) on the trigger guard and the frame always "reset".  Never had to actually break it open.

Longwinters is correct... you DO NOT have to open the Contender action to recock the hammer once you've let it down.   A simple squeeze on the trigger guard extension will reset the sear and allow you to again cock the hammer.   With a couple of trial and errors, you'll find out how much to "squeeze".   Doesn't make any sound either (except cocking the hammer).   Try it and stay with your Contender actions - no need to buy a G2 unless you really want one (and I don't).   HTH
