No True to Form Winchester 92 Clones?

I recently bought a 92 rossi saddle ring carbine and they are very true to the original 92 Winchester guns. I am frustrated though with the fact that all of the octogonal barrel style guns are NOT very true to the original form. The 24 inch original Winchesters weighed about 6-1/2 lbs, The clones weigh 7-1/2, and it's all in the barrel. The short rifles are about 7 lbs. I THOUGHT I had a solution with the Navy Arms Rossi, as it is billed as 7 lbs for the 24 inch guns and 6 lbs 4 oz for the short rifles. I bought a short rifle and damned if it isn't a little over 7 lbs, and the worst part is it "FEELS" way heavier than my 7 lb Marlin guide gun. The new Winchester (Miroku) guns have the correct dimensions, but that tang safety and rebounding hammer leaves me way cold. Are there any I am missing that fit the bill???

Maybe not - I thought at one time that I wanted an octagon barrel, but was not able to find a new one that balanced well, for me anyway. I have a 20" round '94, and 22" round 1895 and both feel good, one is 40 years old, and one is two years old. Maybe one day I will decide it is worth it to find a 40 or so year old 1/2 and 1/2 and see how that feels. I lean towards the older ones, mostly because I think all the safetys are ugly - isn't that what the hammer is for?

One of the big attraction of the Rossi's imported by EMF and Navy Arms is THERE ARE NO SAFETIES other than the half-cock, Just like Mr Browning designed them. No ugly lawyer inspired safety warnings anywhere on the guns either. They are very finely finished and the ones I have shot are VERY accurate. The saddle ring guns are almost exact copies, but the octogonal guns are off in a few ways.

That's nice to know about the safety, and that they are very close in originality, I didn't know that. I may well look closer at them. I do like the curved butt of some models of the Puma, looks very classic, and the calibers I like to have fun with don't need a pad on the butt. Thank you for the information.

The Legacy Sports import Rossi's (Puma's) now have a safety, but there is a way to unobtrusively remove it. The EMF, Navy Arms, and I beleive one more importer is still making them without. Here are some links, along with an article from Paco Kelly about what is possible with these guns:
