HELP........SLUG STUCK IN DIE
« on: July 18, 2009, 08:14:58 AM »
45-70   LEE  die

loaded  2  ok

3rd one  case came  out with out  slug
tried  to lower die  to increase crimp  to pull it  out

just  wrinkled up the casing  more
got a fresh  casing  and  messed it  up  too

tried  in vain  to  open the top  and  punch  it  out  but couldnt  open  the  top
tried  to  slam  it  on  the table  top   that  didnt  work  either

i  have  never  relaoded  the 45-70 till  today
i  have  only used  lee  dies a few  times
cant  figure  out how this crimper works  or how to adjust
it  is different  than  the  lyman  and  rcbs
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs

I'm not sure which crimping die you are using but if it's like the LEE Factory Crimp die that I have, the main body parts are like these pictured:

The mandrel, on the right, simply slides into the main body, on the left, and has no holding/locking device involved.

Hope that helps but I have a feeling this style of die is not the one you are using.

Sounds to me like he's using the standard seater to seat & crimp , if so the seater stem goes in from the top and has a rim to keep it from falling through the die body .

Was it a cast or jacketed bullet ?

More like this bullet seater die (parts)?

this  is  it

i  beat  the  bottom  with  a wooden  dowel  hand  holding  it  upside down
thinking  the inertia  would pull  the  bullet
when  the  ''top punch''  came  out
then  it  was  simlpe  just to  drive out the  slug

thanks  for the  pictures  and rapid responce
i  had several  lee  dies  i  hadnt  used  yet  so  i dismanteled  them
this  was  an  unsized  lead  slug  i was  fire lapping with
it  was  so  ocersized  it  was stuck ib  the crimp section
then  messed  up  the brass and  ended  up
flowing  into  the   top  punch  area

There are some video instructions on the LEE website that might come in handy.
