Sounds like you have the right spot. Heart is a little lower than 1/2 way.

I usually watch to see how the deer is acting. If it's acting all wired up and jumpy i always aim a tad bit lower than normal but in most cases i shoot for the heart and if the deer ducks you get lungs if not then you get heart, both are fatal.  The lower 1/3 slightly down and behind the bend in the shoulder is usually where i aim.

Broadside - tight to the near side shoulder and 1/3 of the way up. . . then if they jump the string you can still put it in the boiler room.

Quartering away - again aim 1/3 the way up but take an angle so that your arrow will come out behind the far front shoulder.

Neck shots are not the way to go...unless a person doesnt mind wounding deer.

From a treestand you will have to aim (perhaps) a little lower than 1/3 of the way up a/c a smaller kill area (sharper angle).   :D

the best thing to do is watch the deer......and when you have a clear shot Aim dead onto the heart.
NOW, just because you are aiming for the heart doesn't mean you'll hit it.
depending on the distance, you might get a string jumper deer and end up hitting the lungs instead. Which means that unless you completely miss, you're always in the kill zone

I have heard that 80% of does will jump the string as opposed to 25% of bucks... What do you think about aiming under? I wouldn't, but some do.

i would never aim under.  I would rather have the pin in the kill zone at all times than have it under the heart and just hope to god it jumps the string.
Nope.....thats not right.

In my humble opinion neck shots (except real close head on) are a no no. As to holding a "hair back of the shoulder" since I shoot lefty and leftys have a tendency to pull righty, I hold two "hairs" behind the shoulder low of center of chest. Rightys since they tend to pull left probably should do the opposite - that is hold a tad closer to the shoulder.

ronbow, why don't you like neck shots? They are quick, fatal, and the deer goes down just as quick as all the other fatal shots.

:D Never tried a neck shot with an arrow........and you know, I never will. There just ain't any vitals up there.
If you can't work em in close & git em in yo face with their orange landing gear down, don't bother takin the safety off!!!!!!!

I had a doe jump the string today on me and resulted in a bad hit.  If it wasn't for a little luck and a nicked liver I would have lost the deer.  This has happened enough to make me want to give 3" or so in front of the best shot placement.

Hi there. Here is my 2 cents. Let him or her, step forword with his closes legs, that opens up the chest.  Split the body in half. Aim for the far leg,  shoulder socket, or arm pit. Then let the arrow fly. Never shoot at the neck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You folks who are having deer jump the string are shooting too far away, or shooting at deer that aren't relaxed yet.
