I like mine, it's a .270.  I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not.

you like yours?  means do you own a zastava? if so what accuracy does it provide?

the stock finish i told you about in the previous  post was based on my 30-06 zastava mod 70

It seems pretty accurate.  I haven't shot it that much.

Mine is an Interarms Mark X it was made by Zastava in Yugoslavia.

mine is a original zastava imported from yog to south africa , bought it about 7 yrs ago and paid roughly paid $ 750 out the box, but due to our strict laws and poor availability of ammo i only managed to put about 150 rds through it up to date and took downed a eland once wich is the biggest antelope on the planet, it weighed in at 680 lb. so when it comes to accuracy i didnt have enough practice yet.

It seems pretty accurate.  I haven't shot it that much.

Mine is an original Zastava as well.  I have about $350.00 in it.  I came with a 6 power Mauser scope on it.  I was able to sell that for a pretty fair price.  I wish it was a .30-06.

Swamp,
You were referring to the 22lr and not a centerfire rifle, RIGHT?

I bought a barreled action chambered in 7mm Rem. Mag. back in '72.  It took a while, but I eventually had a beautiful custom stock made for it.  That rifle has accounted for about four truck loads of Antelope over the years, and quite a few Mulies as well.  I've been shooting it continually for three decades now, and it still delivers .75 inch groups if I do my part.  IMHO the original made in Yugoslavia rifles are an excellent example of the Mauser design, and well executed.  I don't believe you could go wrong owning one of these rifles!

I Bought a Remington 798 in 30-06 that is made by Zastava.  Since then I have been working on the wood stock for it, but I had it in a synthetic before I started this project.  It shoots very well with handloads under an inch with it's short barrel.  Never seemed to care for the factory rounds that I ran through it (only tried 2, sorry not rich enough to try them all).  The only problem that I found it to have is that the camming surface at the rear of the bolt that retracts the cocking peice was very rough and it was difficult to open the bolt after firing. This required me to stone the camming surface smooth and reharden it.  After that I have not had anything to complain about.  The inside of the receiver is rough and the bolt does drag a bit, but is not a big problem.  If I knew a way to smooth the inside of the receiver, I would do it in an instant.  It has been a very reliable rifle.

i have the same issues but with a bit of wear and tear it should smooth out a bit, otherwise no problems.

It is my understanding that the "Yugos" got into machine tool/manufacturing in the late 1800s with everyone else. This is the Balkans and exact political borders, well, "shift" much. Same "industries" group made the "Yugo car."  I think the Nazi Germans got them to making the Mauser 98 rilfe. Following the WW II war, I know that Herter's carried the XKE and the J9 rifles that were made using Mark X actions. [DeHaas seemed to think these might be Mark X 2nds...]  Interarms imported the rifle as the Mark X, some sotcked in England. Seems there were "Parker Hale" rifles using this action...  Knew a couple gunsmiths that stopped converting surplus Mausers 'cause the Mark X with a barrel was cheaper than they could do the coversion work. Just added a stock. I have a Herter's J9 I am happy with and many years later, they "shrinked" the design and made the "Mini Mark X" and I got one of them too. Interarms went under. C. Dailey carried the rifles for a time. Now Remington is carrying them... While they do not rival the "custom shop" rifles meant for match, as a rule they go bang and if you are doing your part, the game comes home with you. What more can you ask for??? Luck.

I currently have a new Interarms Mark X (Zastava) action at Kreiger getting barrelled and set in my action.  Chambering will be 6.5mm-06AI in a heavier than normal stainless/fluted barrel, blue action, Boyd pepper laminate stock.  I also plan to add a Tubb Speedlock whe I get it back.

Should make for a very nice long range rifle - flat shooting with little recoil.  I calcualte that with Sirocco II 130g bullets it will be good for elk to 700 yards and antelope at 1,000.

I received this stock in a trade, went to a gun show 3 weeks ago and found a Mark X in .270
with a broken stock for $200.  Stuck the barreled action in the stock and shot several groups between 1 and 1 1/2" at 200 yds.  Works for me.  Have 2 other of these actions but with douglas premium barrels.  Bought them both in 1967, they've been excellent.

They are Ok but $750 for one is a rip.  They have beeen making rifles and selling to others for years. Howa and Vanguards are a better buy in my opinion.
