Anyone hunting near Walden this year?
« on: September 20, 2009, 04:03:29 AM »
I was just curious if anybody was hunting around Walden this Elk season? My father, Grandfather and I will be there for the 2nd Elk season. This is the first time any of us have ever been Elk hunting. Just wondered if anybody has, is, or does hunt in this area? Thanks  Jumpsteady

;) Jump, I do not hunt the Walden area or any of Colo. any more,  but one of the ranches here in the valley has large holdings in that area. I know the manager he and I shoot some trap together. He did say they have some sort of progam to permit hunters on the ranches, but it may be a pay thing I am not sure. He mentioned ranching for wildlife progam, what ever that is...... :)

That sounds like an interesting thing that they have going on. I would be interested in continuing to hunt the area. If its not so much trouble could you find out about their wildlife program for me. I would be interested in trying to hunt Pronghorn up there if I could find a place to hunt.

I will be moose hunting there in the Walden area this coming week. My BIL drew a coveted moose license and  we are stoked to go. The program in question is Ranching for Wildlife and is only offered to residents. The ranch with the large holding is the Silver Spur and we will be on that ranch saturday morning. I know there is some national forest land around the North Park area but am not familiar at all with it.

see the Colorado DOW website and click on the Ranching for Wildlife section in hunting.

If it is only for residents it won't do me any good. We will be hunting in the National Forest just southwest of town. Congrats on the Moose tag and good luck. I just can't wait till Oct. 15 then its Colorado Elk woods here I come. No wife, kid, work, or worries. Just me, dad, grandpa and the woods.
