I went to the B S web site notice what them initials remind ya of and told them what I think you can too if ya want.

Springsteen Calls for Bush's Impeachment

Aging rocker Bruce Springsteen added a little political spice to his Washington, D.C., concert at FedEx Field Saturday night when, according to concertgoer accounts, he called for President Bush's impeachment.

"It's time to impeach the president and get a man in there to get us out of this mess," the Boss allegedly roared, according to FreeRepublic.com's Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the group's D.C. chapter.

Another concertgoer told an online Springsteen discussion group that Bruce "got a little political, which I thought was great, but he definitely seemed to lose a bit of the crowd around me when he suggested we impeach Bush."

Others thought the Boss was merely joking, since he suggested that Bush be replaced by fellow E Street bandmember Clarence Clemons. But Springsteen reportedly followed his impeachment exhortation with complaints about past and present elected leaders who have misled the country.

During a Boston performance this past Wednesday, Springsteen prefaced his rendition of "Born in the U.S.A." with a statement he termed "a public service announcement" about holding our political leaders accountable.

According to the Boston Herald, he closed the show by plugging Al Franken's latest Republican-bashing book.

Last April, Springsteen defended the Dixie Chicks after lead singer Natalie Maines said she was ashamed that President Bush was from her home state of Texas.

"To me, they're terrific American artists expressing American values by using their American right to free speech," the Boss insisted on his Web site.[/url]http://www.brucespringsteen.net/

Do as you wish.  This IS America, and free speech is invited.

It is your perogative to disagree, but defend till the death the right of free speech of a fellow American, rather than attempt to censor, directly, or indirectly.

I'll do so!!

You are right we have the right to free speech but when a anti gunner like springstein uses his celebrity to bash the president and gun ownership as I have heard him say in the past then all bets are off. I will do anything I can do legally to hurt him!!! I will not stick my head in the sand while these liberal musicians and actors try to use their celeb status to take away my rights!!! Jim

There is no conflict between the concept of free speech and the right of consumers to boycott the products of people who offend them.  The state of popular culture is such garbage that boycott and indeed, a consumer uprising at the cash register, is long overdue.

Just look at the rubbish that is intentionally targeted toward chidlren by the media!  Lesbian kissing, profanity, obsenity,  Africanized "Rap" which is pure savagry, and the glorificaiton of drug useage not to mention the intentinal sexualization of children.  (BTW, I am very liberal on matters of private sexual conduct as long as they remain private and do not involve children).

Consider the "artist" Madonna, whose explicitly sexual public personna has made her a multi-millionaire, who recented announced, in an interview, that she does not allow her own 7 year old daughter  access to the same garbage she has grown wealthy marketing to other people's children.    I have seen other interviews from "entertaiinment industry" leaders who said similar things. These people are like professional drug king pins who grow wealthy selling drugs to your children, but will not let their own kids anywhere near them!

It is high time and long overdue for the parents of this country to turn off their football games and sitcoms, to stop drugging themselves with alocohol and TO RISE UP AND FIGHT BACK AT THE INFLUENCES THAT ARE DESTROYING THEIR OWN CHILDREN.   BOYCOTT PEOPLE LIKE MADONNA, SPRINGSTEEN  AND OTHER CULTURAL VERMIN WHO ARE POLLUTING OUR COUNTRY!

I have to agree with lgm270 on this, there is no conflict.

If advocating that someone not put more money in the pockets of someone who's views are offensive is not also free speech, what is?

The "boss" ( who died and left him "boss" anyway? ) has no inherent right to celebrity.

My personal feeling is that he shot his own career in the foot when he married his first wife. After that, his music started to suck.

What are the gods of our society?

Would they be:

Narcissism
Sex
Professional/College Sports
Gluttony

And anyone who panders to those involved in any of the above.

Long live the freedoms of choice in America.

I just don't have to participate in any that are not of my "style."

You are free to do as you wish, and I'll be there defending your right of choice, whether or not any of your choices are of my style!

If you follow my drift, Mr. Springsteen may do as he wishes, just as any of we may.

Right or wrong, judged by whom?

One's rights extend to the line of encroachment upon those rights of others, right or wrong, again, judged by whom?

We are all endowed by the Creator with free will. That does not means that we are absolved of responsibility for the choices we make. Choices have consequenses. This is what personal responsibity is all about. The liberals would have us believe that it is all about someone else, dead white men, the rich, anyone but you.

Political Correctness is subsituted for shame in our society. The problem is that it is not the same. PC is a double standard. You are free to say that you advocate deviant behavior but not that you support private firearms ownership. People feel that it's perfectly okay to chastise another if what they are saying is PC but keep silent if it's not.

A society needs shame. It is a part of socialization. I'm not talking about Victorian era modesty but things have just swung too far the other way. The majority doesn't say what is acceptable any more. A group of script writers in Hollywood does.

Yes, your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose. If this were the test we applied here then we would be justified in enjoining Springsteen's right to free speech based on his using it to try to enjoin ours. That is not the case however. No one in this thread said that he could not say whatever he wished. If Springstein were to go broke because people stopped buying his records and attending his concerts, as a consequence of his choices, he could still stand on a soapbox in a park or write in a discussion forum - like everyone else.
