Maximum legal length for a pistol?
« on: July 15, 2009, 05:26:48 PM »
At 16" a barrel becomes a rifle barel. Heres my question...

If you take a stock 15" Encore pistol and have a gunsmith tap and thread a 2" break on the end of the barrel, will it be clasified as a rifle barrel?

There is no federal maximum length.  Check with your state laws to see if they have one.

To meet federal minimum length for a rifle barrel the brake needs to be permanent.  It could be welded on but not threaded on.

Also can be pin on if pins are considered nonremovable.
