Sights on Puma 92
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:21:18 PM »
I have a Puma 92 in 357 Mag and don't like the sights! Does anyone have an idea for replacing the front and rear sights? I don't really want a peep rear either. I would like to utilize the dove tails that exist for both front and rear. I could live with the rear sight but I would like to have a front sight that is easier to see in dim light. I'm not intrested in a scope because that kinda goes aganist the feel and purpose of the rifle. Any help would be great!!!

You may wish to check out Marbles front and rear sights.
I like the flat-top sporting rear and 3/32 inch ivory bead front.
Marbles also has newer fiber optics front sights too.

Your rifle has the same sight geometry as a Winchester 94, and ergo can use the same sights.

For better dim light sight pictures, I would install a set of Williams open FireSights (Williams/Midway/Brownells), or Tru-glo's (Cabela's).

If your particular Model 92 has standard dovetails, the sights should slide right in, with maybe a bit of minor fitting - and if it has the oversize dovetails some do, pop a BCS (beer can shim) under the dovetails to tighten them.

Go to the Brownells website to review sights.  I have installed the XS white stripe ramped front blade on several of my levers.  I like them far better than any bead or glow sight.  I can see them well in poor light with the stripe and they their square corners hold windage and elevation better than a bead.  Look up Skinner sights on the web.  He should have something that can be mounted directly on the bolt itself.  Check on them.

Thanks a whole bunch guys! I think I'll go the Marbles route.
