Winchester 94 sights
« on: July 10, 2009, 10:32:29 AM »

Just bought a Winchester 94 top eject. Paid $95 at local pawn shop. Looks like it might have been bouncing around in the back of a truck for awhile. It had a side mount scope base installed (and get this); some ding-bat had removed the factory front and rear iron sights, go figure. Anyway, I plan on replacing both the iron sights and need advise. What was the height of the original factory front sight? The one that was mounted atop a ramp. And does anyone know where I can get an original factory rear sight or a close match?
Thanks

If you plan to use it, not look at it, try a williams peep sight with a front fire sight.  Hog heaven is when you look thru the peep and see the red dot on the late Mr Piggy.

Google Numrich Arms - they carry the NOS proper height replacement barrel sights.

Sounds like you got a heck of a deal on a truck gun for 95 bucks.  Just guessing, but I think that front sights for leverguns like Marlin, Winchester, and others are/were probably purchased parts to begin with. From a manufacturing standpoint it would more likely be much cheaper if you were Winchester or Marlin to buy front sights from somebody like Lyman, Williams, or Marbles that it would be to set up a department to make your own.  It seems that back in the day, a lot of such rifles had various sights, both front and rear, made by Lyman or Marbles.  Both companies stll offer a selection of front sights--the ramp-type as well as the ones that go directly into a barrel dovetail.

I've got Williams peeps on all my lever-action rifles.  They're fast, durable, easy to use and accurate enough for a hunting rifle.

No one ever accused the Win 94 of being a benchrest rifle and it shouldn't be treated as such.  I can understand a low power scope for old tired eyes, and I may have to go to a scope in several years, but until then I'll continue to use the receiver sights.

The Williams Foolproof has a lot going for it.  With either the firesight or the regular bead, they're great sighting equipment for the Winchester 94.

I'm in the process of replacing the sights on my Rossi 92 with a Marbles Tang sight , folding rear sight and a globe front sight . I found this simple formula http://www.marblearms.com/universalRearSights_info.html . Hope it helps
