A Handi day at the range
« on: July 15, 2009, 03:08:00 PM »
Went to the range today with two recievers and three barrels. Started with the 243 Superlite. The first pic is with 105 gr. Speers and H4831. First three into 1", fourth shot was a flyer, with the fifth shot nestled next to the first three.

The second pic shows a five shot group with 95 gr. Nosler Partitions and Ramshot Hunter powder and measures about and inch and a half, which is satisfactory for my hunting purposes.

Then switched the same receiver to a 30/30 barrel and shot a five shot group with Federal factory blue box loads I picked up a couple of years ago when they were cheap. Four shots into an inch and a half, fifth shot opened it up to 2 1/4. It shoots better with selected handloads.

The last pic shows a five shot group with discontinued 165 gr. Barnes XFP bullets meant for the 30/30. These are fired in a reduced load of H4895 in my 30/06. I am guessing the velocity is about 2300. May increase the load somewhat. Group measures 1 3/4 inches. Perfectly acceptable for the distances at which I historically have shot elk.

A great, solitary day at the range.

Nice shooting. Any day at the range beats a day at work.

Thank You for sharing your day with us. I appreciate field reports and seeing what others are doing with their rifles. ;D And has been said; a bad day at the range is better than a good day at work. But you had a good day at the range - so much the better ;)
