For the truckers
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:47:56 AM »
One of my brothers in law is an over-the-road trucker. He told me about a happening he recently witnessed at a weigh station. The station attendant insisted on opening the trailer door. The trucker insisted that he should not do that because it was sealed by the FBI and if the seal was broken, then he'd have to report it. The man opened the seal. About 20 minutes later there was an FBI agent there who took the attendant away.

Then there's my ghost truck story. Everybody I've told said I must have passed out or hallucinated or something. All I can say is that it seemed as real as could be and that I was alert and doing something I frequently did at the time:

It was about 1:20am on the Florida turnpike near Canoe Creek, I believe, and there was very little traffic. Far behind me were headlights I could see in my mirror. After a while it became clear that it was a truck running faster than I was. I was going my customary 62mph. As it got closer I could see the lights overtaking me, then the draft from the nose of the truck buffeted me and my motorcycle, then I glanced to the side and saw a white tractor, kind of like the old White models with no hood. I could hear the engine running. There was orange lettering on the door. It all seemed like I was being passed by a truck, a normal occurrence for any motorcyclist travelling the big roads.

Then the truck disappeared. The lights were gone. The sound was gone. The draft was gone. It was just as if a switch had been turned off. I looked around to see what happened and there was nothing there. The moon was bright. The road was straight. The median and shoulder were easily visible.  I have never taken drugs or had a similar experience. It was chilling. I just hunkered down and kept riding and thought about it for days afterward. I can still see it as if it were just yesterday. It was truly the strangest happening I have had on the road.

Then there was a bit of luck. My buddy and I rented a car for a road trip to his dad's house. We were on I-75 headed to Altanta. It was late at night and there was very little traffic. My buddy was driving. We had been in the left lane for quite a long time and he just changed lanes to be in the right lane. There was no reason for doing so, he just did it. In less than a minute we passed an overturned Winnebago that was practically invisible because its dark side was facing traffic. We didn't see it until we were right on top of it. Fortunately we passed without incident (then stopped to render assistance). But had my buddy not made that simple lane change for no reason at all, I'm sure both of us would be dead now.

Got any good road stories to tell?

It had to have been Large Marge driving the white tractor.

As for wierdness, I've experienced nothing stranger than waking up with my curtain partially open when a Scheider truck was pulling out. Gave me a wonderful
illusion of my truck being the one moving. Wow, I didn't know I could take the driver's seat so fast, and I'll bet I gave someone
a chuckle as I madly pumped the brakes.
Well, there was another time I had to take a power-nap on the side of a road between Amarillo and DFW. I dreamed I'd lost control
of my truck, and when I awoke, I started yelling and stomping on the brakes.

Learned to keep the curtain completely closed when I slept, and... well, I continued to catnap on the wheel, but didn't have one of
those dreams again.

I've done that with the power nap before... wake up to see a truck beside you moving and you think you're the one doing the moving. It sure does bring an end to that need for the power nap.

I've been driving over 30 years and never have had an official want to break my seal and look inside.

I've had it happen a couple times, but once was when crossing into Canada.

They also sacked my truck, leaving everything I owned piled on the ground, and expected me to clean it up
when they were done. All I could do was lower my eyes, pile it all back in the truck, and drive to a nearby truckstop
to get it all back in order.

Didn't want to say anything to anger my 'betters'. After all, I was only a lowly trucker.

...and yeah, a rude awakening is SO much better than my ol' Screaming Meanie to bring me fully awake.

The moving truck will scare the heck out of any driver.
Have been there and done all but see the ghost truck.
Have plenty of stories to tell but most are to long for here.

As a long haul owner operator for 35 years I can honestly say I have never fallen asleap while driving, but I have woke up that way a few times! ;D

Glad I am no longer on the road.

I've heard some similar stories.  Only truly strange for those people who don't acknowledge that there's more to this world than what we can take in with our natural senses.

I've read accounts of long-distance aviators seeing little men climbing on the wings of their planes, and similar hallucinations. If there were not so much bunk related to the paranormal, it might be easier to believe some of it.

True!  But still, people shouldn't let the bunk reports get in the way of the real stuff.  That goes for all aspects of life.
