Good work, thanks Leesecw; there's nothing quite like hearing the sound, and seeing the smoke of full-size muzzleloading ordnance.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Checked back one more time after a snack before bed. In a few of thos vids you can hear the round hit short and then a loud pop when it tears into the trees on the berm. Look closely at the bronze napoleon. Those guys were putting a two and a half pound powder charge in that gun. look closely at a rag near the front of the far wheel. watch what happens to it when the gun goes off

Interesting that they should leave the trail spike in place when firing that bronze one.... I've seen them break off in recoil.

I have always left the handspike in, and I think everyone else does to.  If it will break on recoil I think it will break in use anyway.  I can't explain the first noise of the hit, but the second sound is the round going through the target not the trees.  At any rate it was a fun weekend, and thanks for posting the video.

That was the service charge for solid shot and case shot.  Common shell used a lot less - only two pounds.

Can I be a jerk and point out that it would more likely be "shot" rather than "shell?"

Your right it probably was a shot, I don't think they allowed shell to be fired.   But it made such a large cloud of dust and it was Grayling I wasn't sure it might not be a shell.  Do you know if it was or not?

leesecw,
It was nice to have met you this weekend.
Thanks for posting the pictures. My camera was in its usual safe place (the truck ) and I did not take a single picture.

Solid ball made out of mostly zinc. We cant shoot shell or anything that explodes anywheres since 9-11. The last two years i was on a gun crew I had an opprtunity to see this a number of times, including seeing the Paulson Brothers shoot some exploding rounds from pieces  including out of a 13 inch seacoast

Ok in the third clip there is a cannon sitting to the left behind the lines it is smaller and the crew almost looks Spanish American war with the tan pants
and brown hat anything on them?

Best I can figure is you have exceeded your band width. You also may have exceeded the picture size.  With a free account you get 25 Gb band width and pictures up to 1024x768.

Leesecw,

I don't know what happened, but the (large) photos you posted yesterday on reply no. 14 came through, then later they were gone.
At any rate, keep trying, they're interesting photos.

I think your main problem is PHOTOBUCKET it does not play nice on many forums,  time and again I have

seen the dredded ......

Try Picturetrail.com I've used them since 2002 and have no issues.
