lead foster slugs in ultragon rifling barrel
« on: July 11, 2009, 06:55:03 AM »
The H&R website says this about their ultragon rifling.

Ultragon is a proprietary rifling design comprised of six lands and grooves without sharp edges like traditional rifling. This design imparts bullet spin without leaving sharp impressions on the sabot jacket or foster-style lead slug.

Does that mean that you can actually shoot regular cheap slugs through it, even though is is rifled, without gunking up and fouling the inside of the barrel with lead?

Does anyone regularly shoot regular foster slugs through an ultragon rifled slug barrel without problems?

It definitely sounds like cleaning up the lead fouling will be alot easier with the ultragon rifling. There have been some posts on here about using foster slugs with good accuracy from the rifled barrel.

Don't know about the lead Foster slugs. But I have been shooting a bunch of Remington Buckhammers through one of the Ultragon barrels in a 20 gauge ULSH with no real noticable lead build up. alsredoak

I have used the Buckhammers regularly also with very good results. I have also been testing full bore Dixie slugs that I build myself but they are heat treated hard. I'd like to here from some one shooting winchester super x slugs out of there's that is one that used to really lead up a bbl for me. I say get some sluggers and see how they do I got a feeling they may work ok.Brennekees are probly hard enough not to lead your bore to bad. Kurt
